The moment I walked into my uncle’s house, the first thing I recognized was the amount of toys and that there was two Philippine maids. There were three bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, maid room and a dining room. My mom told me that this was really big considering it was in Hong Kong, so that meant it cost a lot. I saw my two little cousins that are four and six years old, while I was unpacking in their room. I said hi to everyone, including my aunt that has lung cancer. My brother, mom and I ended up sleeping on the Thomas the Train bunk bed that my cousins usually slept at.
The next day we woke up at around 9 a.m., getting ready to go to our first destination, CausewayBay. For breakfast we had a more westernized selection of food: ham, eggs, bread and milk, hoping for food we usually don’t eat in the states. After breakfast, I had an odd feeling because I am not used to the maids. I thought I was funny because my mom’s aunt would call for Jessica or Love, their names, almost every other minute. We left Happy View Terrace to explore downtown, but the moment we left, we felt sticky and it was super humid. During that day we went looking around in shopiing malls Sogo, Times Square, finding our favorite stores Bossini and Giordano. Some of the cool things I thought about the differences of the restaurants were that at McDonald we didn’t need to clean up after ourselves and that in 711 there is microwavable shiu mai.
We ate dinner back at the place we called home for 15 days. There was soup, steamed fish, chicken wings, and vegetable, which were the typical dinner when we ate at home. I joined my mom’s aunt when she watched TVB, one major T.V. channel in Hong Kong, to watch a comedy called Your Hired. I was surprised when I was told there is only 30 channels for cable unlike in America we could have hundreds. I let my little play with my Nintedo ds which I regretted because they played until midnight. I came to know that my cousins in Hong Kong are quite spoiled because they have an enormous amount of toys and they get whatever they want.
It was August 4, 2009; I left my house for Hong Kong and arrived at S.F.O with the help of my mom's antique friend. On the plane I felt like I knew I would be there in 13 hours but the wait was slow and tiring. When I arrived, I felt super tired because i only slept 2 hours in those horrible compact airplane chairs. I looked out the window and saw heavy rain that told me that the trip would rain a lot during this hurricane season. My mom had been previously nagging me that we could have gone to Hong Kong earlier if not my summer school, which I quit after one week. When we found a telephone booth, we used our hkd to call my uncle that lives in CausewayBay. My uncle told us were the taxi cabs were and we eventually found the car after a few long roads.
The taxi guy was short, grey hair, skinny, and was wearing shorts that seemed new. He had the tipical attitude of a taxi driver and was always on the phone. He quickly got our luggages, dumped them in the trunk, we got in the taxi and he started the meter of 15 hkd. This guy was quite mad at us, asking us questions like why did it take so long, where are you from, is this your first time here, and do u guys know Chinese? We answered the first question because there was a minor delay and said he came too early because the flight arrival was 7 p.m and he was there at 6:30. We told him that we are from America, is it our third time in Hong Kong, my mom said she is from the Philippines and we did infact know Chinese, Cantonese. In between all this questioning, he kept bothering us with the fact, time is money for him and we made him wait. After the ride, we ended up at my grandma's sister's house at Happy View Terrace, with a feeling that we did something wrong, but the fact that there was a delay wasn't our fault.
Out of many blogs, I will be writing about past events, hobbies, and goals that I hope to achieve. Tennis is an sport that i play at AHS. I will try to write about some of the experiences that I have gone through and future events for this sport. The past events that I will write about are vacations, field trips, pets, and school. I want to record my memories, so that I can remember them forever. Anime and manga has been part of my hobbies since middle school and I hope to share my opinion about some of my favorite. Winning the lotto is one of the dreams that seems unrealistic but I keep on dreaming. When i retire, I would like to be able to play chinese card games in the park, enjoying my time slowly with my pals. Writing was never a great strength for me in school. I hope that I can improve making my writing in the same tense, better vocabulary, and to make my writing more advanced than before. In the ninth grade, my essays or paragraphs always had the problem of different tenses. With this problem, I started to look carefully and to double-check my writing everytime, which helped out. I want to be able to write with more sophisticated words. Unfortunately, the teacher that I had last year didnt really help with vocab but focused mainly on grammar. In this school year, i hope that i can see progress in my writing. If i could i would be surprised and think to myself, hm... all the work in class was worth the trouble.
