hong kong part 11

Still on the Upper part of ocean park, we were really hungry at the time. Hoping to find the Mcdonalds that was on the map, it was very far away. In the end my mom and uncle derek went to buy some noodles and rice. The tourist food wasnt that great, it was really hot, and i was scared the fan might die out. My brother and i were given twenty five minutes to ride the rollercoasters. After that we went to a cafe to have a drink. When we got there, May's mom, uncle derek, donovan, melissa were already waiting and full. I ordered some drink that was a mix of orange and 7 up, then trying out my brother's red bean with ice cream drink. It was getting late and we needed to be home by 4 because of an important party that my grandma's sister is having for her birthday.

On the way down, it was decided by the adults that we use the train this time and not the gondolas. Once in the room to wait in line, there was a mass amount of people there. When a train arrived people would rush , run, and crowd around the line, even pushing others. I felt the humidity , holding the fan didnt help, so i felt the sweat drip. We were finally in near the part where you walk in one by one. My mom and brother was watching the other people there and copied them by sneaking beneath the poles. This was dangerous, but my mom said someone pushed her and said, "hey! i have kid here." Having a child is not the biggest thing in the world because my brother and i are still under 18. My mom should had said, " hey there is four kids near me."

So my mom and brother were separated from us. We met them up at the when we arrived a train later than them. The feeling i got was like we were running away from the police, so everyone was in a big RUSH.

hong kong part 10

After changing the date for couple days, we finally got to go to Ocean Park. This place is a theme park, but only has 1 roller-coaster, mainly a zoo-like place. There are four pandas that are given by China. In the morning we got fully prepared for this trip, with mini-fans and drinks because the news said it would be super hot. We left the house, the trip there took a short while. The indicator that showed us we were near was a big balloon that was at the center of this theme park. We found parking, and auntie May went inside to claim the entrance tickets.

We were able to come for free because their family had a year season pass and since it was one of the family member's birthday, there was free passes that month. I have never been to Ocean park so I hoped we could come. Waiting for Aunt May, my mother took pictures while my brother, melissa , donovan and i looked at the map. There is a UP the mountain and LOWER mountain part to this resort. The mini-fan was quite useful in the heat. We went in and walked around until aunt may's mother came in and met us. She followed us the whole day since she had nothing else to do.

All i remember mainly is that we went to visit the pandas and off to the UPPER part. When standing there watching the panda eat bamboo, i heard all these chinamen speak mandarin," so cuteee." I didn't really agree with them because one panda didnt look exactly black and white but black and gray. On the gondola way up, the silly kid Donovan was tring to open the door so that we would fall and die. It was a hard time trying to stop him since my mom's order was, discouraging words were not to be used in front of him.

hong kong part 9

Back in ifc, my family and i where all carrying our luggages along with the bedsheets. My brother had really wanted to watch the new movie GI Joe, that recently came out. So we went to the theater that was there and it was turned out to be about 80 hkd per person. After some wandering around, waiting for time to go by, we went into the theater. The seats were very comfortable, and the interesting thing was that we got to choose our seats instead of finding one. The movie was an action one with a lot of explosions. My brother and I agreed that Storm Shadow looked a lot cooler but his enemy/brother Snake eyes was a lot stronger.

When we left the movies, uncle Derek picked us up and brought us back to Causeway bay. Since our main goal of going to Llama Island was to eat seafood, my uncle decided that we go to SaiGon to eat, a well known place. We dropped our stuff off at the house, and was glad for the air con. On the way to SaiGon, uncle Derek's son Donavan was being a retard again. In the car he was whining that he wanted shui mai, this dimsum food, he kept whining and whining. So midway on our trip we stopped, got shui mai at the local 711 store, and continued with our journey after a long while.

After many twists and turns, passing by the actor Liza Wang's house, we arrived there. My uncle informed me that the desert store Honey Moon Desert was owned by my grandma's sister's cousin. Very distant relative but it is still interesting to know who all my rich relatives were. I forgot the name of our restaurant but i remember we went out to pick our seafood first. Just picking the seafood was 700hkd and the fee for preparing would be 70hkd per person. The price of this dinner would be 1300hkd without the drinks or little snacks. When the waiters showed us our table, the first things i noticed was the roof. The roof was so short, i believe it was a 6 feet roof because when i stand straight i would feel my head hitting it.

hong kong part 8

Continuing my journey in Llama Island, i went back to the house, wet and full from the dinner. I showered in the bathroo, one of the places without ants, lizards, and mosquitoes. When i was done, during was nothing to do except to assemble my Keroro model. The wires in the t.v. either didn't work because they were chewed by the lizards or the plugs are broken. I felt proud after assembling the figure, but it was short time that got interrupted by my boredom again. So, i decided to go sleep early and just wake up earlier tomorrow morning. After sleeping for couple hours, i woke up sweating, the stupid fan was not going toward me enough! I didn't pull any of my blanket off, for the fear of more mosquito bites, and eventually fell back asleep.

The next day i woke up early, while my brother and mother was not awake yet. I went to downstairs got a juice-box and went to another bedroom to listen to the main radio station is Hong Kong, RTHK. I thought that the radio station there was a lot more interesting than the ones here for Chinese, but less options. My mom woke up and got a call from Uncle Derek that our grandma's sister wanted us to bring the used bed sheets back to Causeway Bay. We immediately thought," how can we do that, we had trouble with our own stuff, but we still need bring it." We left the house and tried to make everything back to how it was.

We stopped at a local stall that sold tofu for about 7 hkd. The one i got had some ginger sauce and i thought it was pretty smooth and delicious. Back at the ferry for lunch, we arrived at the restaurant called Man Fung. It was recommended by the restaurant we ate at the night before, and there was even pictures of Jet Li and Linda Chung eating there. They weren't open yet when we got there but still welcomed us with peanuts. We ate there and left, my mom feeling ripped off that we had to pay for the complimentary peanuts. The ferry brought us back to Central, ifc.

Hong Kong part 7

It took a lot asking from my mom until my grandma's sister gave us the key to Llama Island's house. Llama Island is a place where they sometimes make movies, and a lot of Caucasians live there. We took the ferry again like the time we went to Cheung Chow, but it took about an hour. When we got there, we ate lunch at a random place, with noodles. I liked the lemon tea there but the food was not so good. After the food, it started pouring rain. My mom, brother and I decided to walk in the rain with our luggage and food. With one umbrella in one hand and bag in front of me, we went through the tropical forest to reach our destination. My aunt told us that the house was near the police station and on top of a restaurant called Han Lok.
The weather was really hot and humid, so i sweated while the mosquitoes bit me. I got a total of 15 bites during that trip and some of them were pretty deadly with a bubble. Love informed us that the door might be a bit hard to open. Sadly, we did have trouble with it and Love didnt tell us how to open the door. We were frustrated from the door, drenched in sweat. Click! My mother found a way to open it through some tricky maneuver. The open was opened and a smell of rustiness or mold was all around. When exploring i found a juice box upstairs filled with ants, probably Melissa or Donovan. We threw it away because they might think it was us.
The ground was cracked with a little orange on it. Flying around were the mosquitoes, the salamanders on the slimy wall, and the mass ants all around. I didn't really want to sleep over that night but my brother just wanted to get away from our cousins. My brother and i changed and went to the nearby beach without thinking too much about later. The beach was bright and sunny, not much people. The sandy floor of the water was rough until you went 10 feet away from the beach. We were bored so we went pretty far, about 6 of those red balls that stood for how far you went. Wet, we went to Han Lok for dinner. There was air con that made our wetness feel chilly along with the buzzing mosquitoes. The lemon fried chicken , beef, and E-noodles were beast!

New Statement of Purpose

In the blog post that i already did, they were about mostly my trip to Hong Kong, school assignments and this one tennis incident. In my first statement of purpose i said that i would write about goals, sports , hobbies, vacations, and much more. I have mainly focused on the most recent vacation and none of the other things that i wanted to write about. On my upcoming posts i want to finish my last ideas that i remember about Hong Kong and start some about my goals. I could talk about the many unrealistic dreams that i have about lamborghinis and winning the lotto.

In my previous statement of purpose i wanted to fix my way of writing with grammar / same tense. I have not achieved this goal because i do not usually have the time to look over my blogs couple of times and make sure that i have correct grammar. Usually i just type down whatever that comes to my mind but an hour after i post it, i realize that i could have added so much more detail. One thing that i have been to lazy to do during my newer blog post are to capitalize my i's. This is because the Google Docs and the blogger document do not capitalize them for me, unlike Word. The uncapitalized i's are pretty cool because the i's dont looks so important.

In the future i would like to be able to keep writing down my ideas that i think are interesting. By writing them down, i can look over my blog one day in the distant future and remember how i thought, lived and my past. I am afraid that i will forget the precious memories because i have a somewhat selective memory. I might want to also start a story. That story can have the randomest of ideas but will seem perfect to me.

hong kong part 6

Even though the title of this post is hk part 6, it is about the time I went to Macau. My mom had planned to go to Macau, a gambling place like Las Vegas, even before we got to Hong Kong. So one day my uncle brought us to get tickets to get there, a ferry ticked and hotel room. When we waited, my brother and i had to wait in the car with Donovan, Melissa, and aunt May. It took my mom and uncle a long time, so we waited and waited and I took a picture of Donovan when he fell asleep. Eventually i went out to go to Okashi Land to buy candy/snacks. My aunt told us why there was so much Philippians across the street in Causeway Bay, it was because they were maids that were on a day off. They came back, we went back home, and ate the delicious banana chocolate candy.

We left for Macau the following day. We left early in the morning, earlier than normal, for the Sheung Wan station for the ferry. The red big ferry boat rocked left and right and that instantly gave me a headache. I tried reading the Old Master Q I bought at the newstand but I failed because of the dizziness. I quit and went to sleep for the hour ride that it takes. Outside the terminal, all i saw outside was all the buses that brought you to the hotel for free. We rode the Rio Bus to our hotel and found out that it was quite fancy. My mom's plan for Macau was that we kept riding these free buses and visit the hotels.

I thought that this place was no way similar to Las Vegas. Macau was a lot stricter on the 18 and younger limit in casinos. I was not even allowed to go in, while in Las Vegas we can go through in order to find parent or go to hotel room. Macau was a lot less lively than Las Vegas, and no arcades for kids. We visited some of the hotels that looked liked for rich people, but some of them I couldn't go in because the front entrance was the hotel. I had bought some almond cookies for my friends as souvenirs. We visited the Macau Fisherman's wharf and a tourist site called Tai Sam Ba. At Tai Sam Ba there was Giordano and Bossini, and my brother bought Gundams at a local store. The day after we arrived at Macau, we had left and was left disappointed.

hong kong part 5

This day was another day for a tourist attraction, the Big Buddha on Ngong Ping, Lantau Island. We woke up and ate the usual breakfast and left for the MTR. We took the Causeway Bay station and stopped at the Tung Chung station, which was beyond Disneyland. Outside the Station was a plaza and a few shops but seemed deserted. We took the escaltor to the place where you get tickets for the gondala. It turned out being around 120 hkd because we chose the one way crystal bottom on the gondala.

on the ride, i thought it was fun because of the constant rocking and my mom's friend being scared of looking down. We saw a body of water and a long mountain of green trees. It was surprising that there was a route on the mountains, so that you can walk there, must be torture.
When we got there it was very peaceful but my mom and her friend planned a lot of things to do. They decided to eat first so we ate at a local restaurant. I got this noodle with three soy sauce chicken wings with this blueberry tapioca. The blueberry tapioca was good, but it did not last too long. The lunch took my forever to finish because I had to eat some of my brother's leftovers, while my mom talking to strangers.
The big buddha was far, we got there very fast. When i saw the amount of steps, i thought,"oh thats a lot of steps." My brother and I raced up there while everyone else went slowly, and taking pictures. My mom's friends were a bit obesed so they took forever. At the top wasnt much to do, we just took pictures and walked around inside. After they bought these souvenirs, my brother and I laughed at them because they actually thought it got blessed.

The Big Buddha buiding was build quite recently so i don't understand why it is so religious. My brother and I saw a monk and asked each other if we wanted to gamble with cards because our dad told us we will have bad luck if we gambling after seeing a monk. We went down the Buddha and drank some lemon tea. My mom and brother got a straw-hat while they could have gotten that in America. We got home and it was a day .

hong kong part 4

This day the adults decided they wanted to go eat seafood somewhere far away. My mom, brother, and I woke up for the usual breakfast then left the house for the Causeway Bay mtr station. We rode the MTR til we got to Central, got off and then walked to the ferry station, passing by ifc, the international finance center. On the bridge, I was horrified because i saw a bunch of people that didn't have an arm or leg. My dad told me later that they didn't need to ask for money because the government gives them enough money to live. At the Number 4 ferry station, we waited for my mom's friends. The destination was cheung chow, a place known for their seafood.

The boat rocked, and when i woke up after our ride, I was sweating from all the humidity. We didn't know where to go so we just took a left when we exited the ferry building in cheung chow. On the way we saw a fire station, a few temples, and a somewhat beach. At the beach we took pictures of the land formations and the view. The main temple had a basketball court next to it, I didn't like the idea of playing basketball in that weather. The restaurant we ate at, had 7 dishes for about 220 hkd. The food was delicious but when I asked for Coke I got Pepsi. On our way out we were a bit early for the ferry so i went to Circle K (similar to 711) to get some potato flavored potato chips, ice cream, microwavable shui mai, and a bottle of lemon tea. The fish meat shui mai was okay but it felt cool to be able to microwave shui mai. My brother went to Ipzone to buy some pants right before we left to go back to Central. After an trying day of being a tourist we go back to Happy View Terrace, with Melissa and Donovan attack us with their whining.

Tennis incident

It was last Tuesday, August 29 2009, when I got into this argument at Washington Park. I played with my friend for about one hour and then he had to leave. I stayed on the court to practice my inconsistent serve. After playing for about 10 minutes, some guy named Manny came to my court and acted very friendly. Before my friend Norman and I didnt like this guy because when we wanted his court he did not leave. He just told us that he just started but we knew he was lying. I did not have a good impression on this guy.

When he came over I just kept serving and minding my own business. Randomly he asked me if Mahamud was coming over. I wondered inside my head, " why is he asked me this" so I just answered I dont know. So Mahamud came over into my court and greeted Manny. I got the idea that they wanted my court somehow but i kept on serving. When they seemed like they were ready to play they took my court. so i kept serving even though they were there. So they got mad and ordered me to leave. It was the rules that if there is only person on a court and you have two , you can kick them out. But that rule only applies if there is an empty court that the two people can use. I did not move because court 4 was obviously open but they wouldnt go there, they like my court more. After a long time of arguing Mahamud pushed me, saying that he was trying to be nice before. I called the cops because it would not harm me but only him.

In the end no one really got into deep trouble but i think this is a case of bullying, two old people vs. one kid. This story kinda spread throughout washington park like it was high school. I guess this can be called tennis gossip. My friend , Ron, heard of the story of a tall asian calling the cops on Mahamud but didnt think it was me. I confirmed and I thought it was funny how fast it spread.

Tatum Unit Part 1

(12.) Certainly some people are more prejudiced than others, actively embracing and perpetuating negative and hateful images of those who are different from themselves. When we claim to be free of prejudice, perhaps what we are really saying is that we are not hate-mongers.[10] But none of us is completely innocent. Prejudice is an integral part of our socialization,[11] and it is not our fault. Just as the preschoolers my student interviewed are not to blame for the negative messages they internalized, we are not at fault for the stereotypes, distortions, and omissions that shaped our thinking as we grew up.

I agree with this paragraph because i think all people are some what prejudice. There are people that are super peaceful and are kind to all other people and other people who kill others because of race. No one is really not prejudice because they can be doing it unconsciously but people that are not as prejudice. They go the supermarket to buy some apples, and you buy the red ones because you don't like green. The green one could taste better but u look at it and don't like the color. We were influenced by our parents and we naturally got stereotypes. I think it is significant because it sums up the article. I shows that we learn prejudice from when we are young and that we are all prejudice to one extent.

hong kong part 3

The following day, my mother decided to meet up with some of her friends that we will go to tourist attractions with. We got off at Central Station to meet up with them. After twenty minutes of waiting, they finally came. My mom's friend was chubby and her Chinese was like a typical ABC. Her daughter amazingly looked exactly like her mother but with a little bit more long face, i guess it is like mother like daughter. Her husband was surprisingly not fat but more buff, and gave off a good impression. So we were off to our first destination, The Peak, by taking the bus. The bus had only cost 9 hkd for a trip that lasted a long time up to the peak of a mountain which you can see all of hong kongs buildings.
On the ride up my mother and her friend talked while my brother and I got to know Andrew, the husband's name. His occupation was a plumber and had jokes about how he got poop out of the toilet. This guy shared some of the same views that my brother and I had about society. When we got to the top there was a shopping mall up there with Bubba Gumps ( like the one in S.f.) in a building in the shape of a Y. There was a place for tourist to take pictures, so my mom dragged me there. I never liked taking pictures and I agree with the phrase ,"pictures suck your soul out" from Rurouni Kenshin, a manga. We walked until a gate where we took pictures again, then decided to walk back to the shopping mall because we felt hot, and tired easily.
I felt that we where missing something because all we did was take pictures, surely there was something more to this tourist attraction. After we decided that the food up there cost too much we took a train that cost couple more dollars, but it was that much cooler. We got lost in Kowloon but found our way by using the MTR. When we got home, my grandma's sister asked us if we had fun and if we went all around the peak to a fun part, which i thought was stupid because no one told us.

hongkong part 2

The moment I walked into my uncle’s house, the first thing I recognized was the amount of toys and that there was two Philippine maids. There were three bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, maid room and a dining room. My mom told me that this was really big considering it was in Hong Kong, so that meant it cost a lot. I saw my two little cousins that are four and six years old, while I was unpacking in their room. I said hi to everyone, including my aunt that has lung cancer. My brother, mom and I ended up sleeping on the Thomas the Train bunk bed that my cousins usually slept at.

The next day we woke up at around 9 a.m., getting ready to go to our first destination, Causeway Bay. For breakfast we had a more westernized selection of food: ham, eggs, bread and milk, hoping for food we usually don’t eat in the states. After breakfast, I had an odd feeling because I am not used to the maids. I thought I was funny because my mom’s aunt would call for Jessica or Love, their names, almost every other minute. We left Happy View Terrace to explore downtown, but the moment we left, we felt sticky and it was super humid. During that day we went looking around in shopiing malls Sogo, Times Square, finding our favorite stores Bossini and Giordano. Some of the cool things I thought about the differences of the restaurants were that at McDonald we didn’t need to clean up after ourselves and that in 711 there is microwavable shiu mai.

We ate dinner back at the place we called home for 15 days. There was soup, steamed fish, chicken wings, and vegetable, which were the typical dinner when we ate at home. I joined my mom’s aunt when she watched TVB, one major T.V. channel in Hong Kong, to watch a comedy called Your Hired. I was surprised when I was told there is only 30 channels for cable unlike in America we could have hundreds. I let my little play with my Nintedo ds which I regretted because they played until midnight. I came to know that my cousins in Hong Kong are quite spoiled because they have an enormous amount of toys and they get whatever they want.

hongkong part 1

It was August 4, 2009; I left my house for Hong Kong and arrived at S.F.O with the help of my mom's antique friend. On the plane I felt like I knew I would be there in 13 hours but the wait was slow and tiring. When I arrived, I felt super tired because i only slept 2 hours in those horrible compact airplane chairs. I looked out the window and saw heavy rain that told me that the trip would rain a lot during this hurricane season. My mom had been previously nagging me that we could have gone to Hong Kong earlier if not my summer school, which I quit after one week. When we found a telephone booth, we used our hkd to call my uncle that lives in Causeway Bay. My uncle told us were the taxi cabs were and we eventually found the car after a few long roads.
The taxi guy was short, grey hair, skinny, and was wearing shorts that seemed new. He had the tipical attitude of a taxi driver and was always on the phone. He quickly got our luggages, dumped them in the trunk, we got in the taxi and he started the meter of 15 hkd. This guy was quite mad at us, asking us questions like why did it take so long, where are you from, is this your first time here, and do u guys know Chinese? We answered the first question because there was a minor delay and said he came too early because the flight arrival was 7 p.m and he was there at 6:30. We told him that we are from America, is it our third time in Hong Kong, my mom said she is from the Philippines and we did infact know Chinese, Cantonese. In between all this questioning, he kept bothering us with the fact, time is money for him and we made him wait. After the ride, we ended up at my grandma's sister's house at Happy View Terrace, with a feeling that we did something wrong, but the fact that there was a delay wasn't our fault.

Statement of Purpose

Out of many blogs, I will be writing about past events, hobbies, and goals that I hope to achieve. Tennis is an sport that i play at AHS. I will try to write about some of the experiences that I have gone through and future events for this sport. The past events that I will write about are vacations, field trips, pets, and school. I want to record my memories, so that I can remember them forever. Anime and manga has been part of my hobbies since middle school and I hope to share my opinion about some of my favorite. Winning the lotto is one of the dreams that seems unrealistic but I keep on dreaming. When i retire, I would like to be able to play chinese card games in the park, enjoying my time slowly with my pals.
Writing was never a great strength for me in school. I hope that I can improve making my writing in the same tense, better vocabulary, and to make my writing more advanced than before. In the ninth grade, my essays or paragraphs always had the problem of different tenses. With this problem, I started to look carefully and to double-check my writing everytime, which helped out. I want to be able to write with more sophisticated words. Unfortunately, the teacher that I had last year didnt really help with vocab but focused mainly on grammar.
In this school year, i hope that i can see progress in my writing. If i could i would be surprised and think to myself, hm... all the work in class was worth the trouble.
